The President's Corner

Recognizing students, faculty and staff

This is an exciting time of the year at Norwich. As we approach the end of the semester there are many opportunities to recognize students, faculty and staff for their hard work, both inside and outside of the classroom. I would like to share with you a small sampling of the wonderful people we have at the university.

Honoring an injured alum

Last week I travelled to Washington, D.C., to meet with General Gordon Sullivan, chairman of the Norwich Board of Trustees.  Together we went to Walter Reed Army Hospital and visited 1LT Bergan Flanagan ’08. On Feb. 24, while on patrol in Afghanistan, Bergan was wounded by an IED blast.

Proud of students

I want to congratulate both the men’s and women’s hockey teams on their successful seasons. The No. 1-ranked men’s team skated to a 2-1 victory over third-seeded St. Norbert College in the 2010 NCAA Division III National Championship game Saturday afternoon in Lake Placid, New York.

Clearing up a misconception

I recently received feedback from a student questioning the priorities Norwich places on student needs. Before specifically responding to this comment, I would like to say that I always welcome input from students as well as from everyone in the Norwich community.

Use social media carefully

I recently received a note from an alum who had viewed a film clip on YouTube he found to be offensive. This video, which was clearly filmed in a dorm at Norwich by several Cadets – some of whom are now alums – was grossly inappropriate. For anyone in the U.

Honor Our Veterans

"Veterans come from all walks of life.  They are your parents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, friends, and neighbors..."

Work of the Board of Trustees

I would like to thank everybody who played a role in preparing for last week’s Board of Trustees meeting. I received positive feedback from the Trustees about their visit, and many expressed excitement with the current state of the University. Norwich University is governed by its Board of Trustees.

Congratulations, Clarifications, and Comments

"Congratulations on some wonderful advances for the Guidon..."

"Change"

"Two words I am using to describe this year are 'change' and 'assessment...'"
