Each year members of The Engineering Society of Vermont bestows the title of Engineer of the Year to a worthy candidate. They choose someone in the state who they feel has contributed significantly to the engineering profession, according to Professor Eugene Sevi, this year's recipient.
The award is given on the basis of an accumulative review of an engineer's entire career. It is only awarded to professional licensed engineers, according to Sevi.
"I'm very humbled because I work with a lot of fine people," said Sevi of the Civil Engineering Department at Norwich.
Sevi has been teaching at Norwich for over 35 years. He got his start in engineering while in the Navy.
"I was in the Engineering Corps," he said.
Sevi is also a Norwich alumni who always planned on coming back to teach after he graduated.
"While I was a student here I enjoyed helping my classmates, so I wanted to give teaching a try," said Sevi.
After all of his hard work in the engineering field, Sevi said tha winning the award was "very satisfying"
"I appreciate they chose to recognize me," he said.
Although winning the award was a great accomplishment for Sevi, he said that it has not really changed his way of doing things at all.
"I think the direct effect on my teaching will be minimal," Sevi said. According to him, the award was more of a recognition of his career than something that would immediately affect him as a teacher.
