Men's and women's hockey are golden
Both teams win their division and move onto NCAAs
In a challenging yet successful weekend for both the men's and women's hockey teams at Norwich, no task would seem too tough.
After winning all their games this weekend, both teams are headed to the NCAA Tournament championships.
On Friday afternoon, the men's team squared off against New England College. After a memorable puck drop by snowboarder Hannah Kearney, the Vermont Olympian gold medalist said to the team before the game, "Have fun," and that's exactly what the men did.
The men defeated New England College by a score of 3-1, getting them into the ECAC championship round against Babson College the following night.
On Saturday the Cadets hosted #2 seeded Babson, who didn't go down without a fight.
After a scoreless first period the Cadets managed to get on top in the second and never looked back, beating the Beavers both physically and mentally enroute to a 4-1 win and automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
Norwich will host the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal game this coming Saturday, March 13, at Kreitzberg Arena.
The women, on the other hand, started off strong and never gave in, scoring 11 goals in 24 hours and allowing none.
The lady Cadets cruised past the University of Massachusetts, Boston, by a score of 8-0, led by forward Brittane Michaud, who scored a hat trick in the first period.
The team advanced to the championship game Sunday afternoon against New England College.
In Sunday's game, the scoring started in the first period. The Cadets posted a tally every period to beat the Pilgrims by a score of 3-0, capturing the ECAC title for the second straight season.
The Cadets will travel to Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Saturday, March 13, to take on Plattsburgh State in a quarterfinal contest. Faceoff for the game is slated for 7 p.m.
