Pegasus Players put on second play of year
The lights go out, the room is dead quiet. Tonight is the night; weeks of preparation, planning and practice all come down to this.
The curtain opens. Ashley Wilson comes out on stage and looks around. The freshman nursing major has memorized her lines, and she is ready to start.
The Pegasus Players performed its second and final play of the academic year in the first weekend of April.
"The play was called ‘Red, White and Tuna.' It was about people in about the smallest town in Texas and they had an adventure, (it) makes fun of the southern Texas lifestyle," said Wilson, 18, from Cannon, N.H.
The Pegasus Players is a group of students who perform plays at Norwich. The plays are acted and directed by the students.
They have two faculty advisors to help.
"I was the assistant director and stage manager. For rehearsals I would give critiques," said Wendy Wegner, a 19-year-old freshman nursing major from Stafford, N.H. "For the actual show (I) was moving stuff around preparing props."
The students were from all class years. Each one had their own job either as a "techie" or as an actor.
For actors, there were four freshmen, three sophomores and a junior. For techies, there were four freshman and two seniors.
The students prepared for weeks. The show itself was two hours long and was performed in Dole Auditorium.
"I played Deedee and Anita, Deedee owned a gun shop and Anita owned a catering business with (another character)," Wilson said.
Besides performing plays, the Pegasus players also go and see other plays around Vermont for inspiration and ideas. They recently went to see the abridged works of Shakespeare.
The Pegasus Players has nothing further planned for the semester. It will be working on its plays for next year.
