Campus Activities Board has big plans for events
The Norwich Campus Activities Board (CAB), which plans campus activities, is determined to improve its offerings this year, said members.
"I have an opportunity to change stuff that people don't like and overall make Norwich more fun," said Corey Liker. This is a way to change the school and make it better, he said.
Liker, 19, a nursing major from San Antonio, Texas, said he wants more diverse activities, and not always have the same activities every week. As examples, he listed black light pool tournaments, casino nights or even sports tournaments.
It is not easy to find things that will be of interest to the whole student body, said Liker.
CAB is a way for students to find better events to host and make this school better each year, he said. CAB events include scheduling comedians, hosting game shows and showing movies.
Alicia Seda, 20, senior business major from Bronx, N.Y., who is the chair of CAB, said, "I plan and book events on campus to entertain students and I help run the weekly meetings."
"Being a part of this group makes me feel like I have accomplished something and can really make this school better," Seda said.
In the past, the CAB as done a lot of different events to help out the school and make it more enjoyable for the students, said Seda.
All students received a Fall 2010 event calendar in their student mailboxes which detailed events for the semester, said Seda. Some semester highlights include Massage on the go, which will offer 10-minute massages for 2.5 hours Dec. 9, 10 and 11, and comedian Lauren Ashley Bishop who will be performing Dec 11. Both events are open to all NU students.
This semester, CAB introduced a prize wheel to reward students with prizes ranging from iPods, free meals at the Mill, tailgate chairs and X-Box 360s just for attending a Campus Activities Board event.
The board meets every Tuesday night. Liker encourages students to attend, especially if they have complaints.
