Upon arriving on campus for the first time as a freshman or transfer student, students are issued a Norwich University identification card called the Cadet Card. This card has many uses and benefits.
Students can use their cards to purchase food and get discounts at local stores. They need their card to get into the dining hall and dorms.
Students or their parents can put money on their card.
“There is no limit to the amount of money and a student can put on their card,” said Melody St. John, the administrative assistant of Wise Campus Center and the Cadet Card coordinator.
The money put on the Cadet Card can be used all around campus. “Students can use it in the bookstore, the mill, the dining hall, the mailroom, the uniform shop, the Bursars Office, vending machine, concessions at athletic events, and the laundry room,” St. John said.
According the St. John, the card can also be used off campus at the same places where the University of Vermont CAT card is accepted. “They can use them in the Burlington area,” St. John said. “There are many, many places that they can use them.”
There is a full listing of uses on the University of Vermont’s Web site.
The cards are useful closer to home in central Vermont.
“They can use them at Village Pizza, Depot Pizza; we’ve just started China Star, Grand Union, Domino’s Pizza in Barre, and by the time they come back from break they will be about to use them at the Common Café, and hopefully soon we will also be getting Subway,” St. John said.
Students may need their card into get into certain buildings on campus, including the new dormitory on campus, South Hall.
Only students living in South Hall are able to get into the building using their card. To enter, they must swipe their card.
“I don’t know this for a fact, but down the road, I think you are going to have the swipe system in all of the buildings,” St. John said.
Improvements to the Cadet Cash Card are being planned. “One thing we are looking at doing for the Cadet Cash Card is trying to get online service for it,” St. John said, “which means that student would be able to go right online and add payments to their account.
“They would be able to check their accounts, they would see a statement,” St. John said, “and if the student chooses, they would be able to have parents go online and add money.”
If students are having any trouble with their Cadet Cash Card or would like to put money on their card, they can go to Room 228 in the Wise Campus Center. The office is open Monday-Friday at 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
